How to change text to uppercase, lowercase, title case or sentence case
Typed a heading with Caps Lock on, or need a title in title case? Paste the text into Gren, select it, and choose UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case or Sentence case from the command list. It is free and runs in your browser.
The four cases
| Case | Looks like | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| UPPERCASE | THE KETTLE IS ON | Short labels and acronyms. Long runs of capitals are hard to read. |
| lowercase | the kettle is on | Tags, usernames, and a fresh start before another case. |
| Title Case | The Kettle Is On | Titles of books, films and songs, and headlines in some styles. |
| Sentence case | The kettle is on | Headings, buttons and most writing in the UK. |
How to change case with Gren
- Open gren.app and paste or type your text.
- Select the part you want to change. With nothing selected, the whole note changes.

Title case and the small words
Gren's Title Case capitalises the first letter of every word and lowers the rest. Style guides differ on short words. Most keep a, an, the, and, but, or, of, in, on and to in lower case, unless one starts or ends the title.
The Lord Of The Rings
The Lord of the Rings
After converting, lower those words by hand if your style asks for it. Check names and acronyms too: Title Case turns NASA into Nasa and iPhone into Iphone.
Sentence case, the UK default
Sentence case capitalises the first word and any names, like an ordinary sentence. GOV.UK asks for every heading to be written this way, and many UK websites follow it. It reads more easily than title case, and there are no rules about small words to remember.
Gren's Sentence case lowers everything else, so put the capitals back on names, places and the word I.
Fix text typed with Caps Lock on
